#28: It Must Have Been an Amazing Bike

On the one hand, riding a bike out of a store without paying for it is stealing. We don’t want to encourage shoplifting, and stores can eventually go under if enough stuff gets stolen from them that they’re not turning over a profit the way that they should.

On the other hand, what choice did this guy have? You read the story: fists were being thrown. Would you be willing to wait in line at a cash register with your hard-won gains, knowing that at any moment, another fight might break out over the bike in your hands? I’m not saying I condone the guy, I’m just saying that I can see where he’s coming from.
