#2: People Are the Worst

Sometimes I read a book like Lord of the Flies and think, “That could never happen. Humanity has its low points, and individuals can behave very badly, but surely everyone together couldn’t get so consumed with their own needs and desires, so blindly indifferent to the plight of their fellow man, that they would behave in such an uncivilized manner.”

And then I read stories like this and realize that I have been far too optimistic about humanity. Imagine being so keen to get your hands on a cheap Nintendo Switch that you won’t even move out of the way for emergency personnel. Imagine thinking your cheap Nintendo Switch is more important than someone else’s life. Pretty unimaginable, right?
