Under William McKinley’s presidency, the United States saw unprecedented industrial expansion and enacted the most substantial protective tariff to date. His tenure was marked by the Spanish-American War, a conflict that resulted in a decisive victory for the U.S., including the defeat of the Spanish fleet in Cuba, the capture of Manila in the Philippines, and the occupation of Puerto Rico.

He was the 25th President of the United States from 1897 until his assassination in 1901. McKinley’s presidency was marked by economic prosperity, characterized by the gold standard and protective tariffs.
