#11: Zachary Taylor – Calas Tous Chauds
Zachary Taylor holds the unfortunate distinction of being the second U.S. president to die while in office, and as a self-proclaimed foodie, he might have been particularly vexed to succumb to a stomach-related illness. Interestingly, conflicting accounts suggest that his death may have been hastened by an indulgence in milk and cherries just days earlier.

Thankfully, his favorite dish wasn’t the culprit. Taylor was particularly fond of calas tous chauds, better known today as New Orleans rice fritters. Whether he preferred them dusted with powdered sugar or spiced with cinnamon is a mystery, but no doubt these treats satisfied his Southern palate.
