Myth #49: What to do With a Fallen Baby Bird
Contrary to the long-standing belief, assisting a fallen baby bird won’t result in any avian family feuds. The idea that human scent would cause bird mothers to abandon their chicks is nothing more than a feathered fantasy. Most bird species don’t rely on a keen sense of smell and primarily identify their offspring through visual and auditory cues.

You won’t find bird moms conducting sniff tests like winged detectives in the sky. So, if you encounter a helpless fledgling in need, don’t hesitate to be a good Samaritan. Bird mothers won’t cast their young out into the cold just because you’ve extended a helping hand with a caring touch.
