#45: “Stay Low and Go”
Fire safety loves to use acronyms and little rhymes to help people remember important steps to take in an emergency fire situation. A common refrain is “stay low and go” when it comes to escaping a smoke-filled room. Smoke inhalation is extremely dangerous and lethal in certain situations.

To avoid inhaling too much smoke, escape the fire by staying low to the ground. Crouch, crawl or even drag yourself out of the room to avoid running through giant clouds of smoke and getting the dangerous stuff in your lungs. Smoke will always rise, so staying low to the ground is a potentially life-saving action you can take.
