#39: Save Yourself
The Heimlich maneuver is the classic way to stop someone from choking on an object. We’ve seen plenty of TV shows and movies where someone is saved by a good samaritan who does the instantly recognizable abdominal thrusts. But what do you do if you’re choking and there’s no one else around to help you?

Don’t lose hope. There is a way you can do the Heimlich maneuver on yourself. Lean over the back of a chair and fall on your stomach as hard and quick as you can. This emergency maneuver can help dislodge whatever is stuck in your windpipe.
