#36: Medical Racism

One place you certainly don’t want to be mistreated is a hospital. Still, sadly that’s an all-too-unpleasant reality for POC. Medical racism refers to the unequal treatment and bias faced by people of color in the healthcare system. Studies show that POC receive lower-quality medical care than their white counterparts.

They’re also less likely to receive timely diagnoses and treatments. This issue in care can have severe consequences, including higher mortality rates and poorer health outcomes. As such, we must acknowledge and work towards fixing these inequalities in the healthcare system. Nobody deserves to get worse treatment simply because of their skin color.
