#29: New Name
According to various studies and reports, having an “ethnic-sounding” name can be a major disadvantage in the job search process, even if you’re more than qualified for the job. So, what do POC do? Well, some folks just change their name on their resume and cover letter to a more “neutral” or “white-sounding” name.

They hope it’ll give them a better chance at landing an interview. It’s a sad reality, but for many POC, it can feel like the only way to level the playing field and overcome systemic bias in the hiring process. The good news is that there are organizations working to address this issue.
