A mighty bird

Can you guess which bird this feather belongs to? This is a grown man’s hand compared to a feather of a bald eagle. This person just happened to stumble upon this feather, so we don’t know how old that eagle was and whether it was male or female, but either way, bald eagles are very large birds; they weigh up to 14 pounds and have a wingspan of eight feet.

That means their wingspan is larger than an adult person! There are many reasons why the bald eagle is the national symbol of the U.S., and its mighty size is one of those reasons; it’s one of the many traits that make the bald eagle fierce and authoritative.
