On Tap

Texting was a very different beast back in the day. There was no handy little graphic recreation of a standard keyboard on your screen, and there was certainly no way to swipe your finger across the screen to spell out words. Instead, we had multi-tap texting.

At first, we were all pretty bad at it; after all, it was like learning a whole new way to type. But before long, we could tap out any message as fast as we liked. And now, with smartphones that make it far easier to text, all our hard-won multi-tap knowledge is absolutely useless.
