Set in the Past

You’re probably familiar with Dawson’s Creek, a teen drama that was popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It followed the lives and relationships of a close group of friends since their high school years and into their college years. It wasn’t set in the past, but at the time of the show’s production- from 1998 to 2003.

Apparently, for teens these days, this is considered “the past”. This teenage girl actually told her mother she was watching a teen drama set in the past and described Dawson’s Creek. We’d never consider something from the early 2000s as “set in the past”, but I guess we all have a different perception of time.
