With modern streaming services, you can listen to nearly any piece of music you can think of, using a phone that fits in your pocket and earbuds that don’t even need wires. We’ve come a long way from the stereo systems we grew up with, and most of the time, we’re thankful for that.

A stereo the size of a bookcase used to be the must-have item in everyone’s living room, complete with a collection of records underneath. Kids today don’t even realize that you used to have to buy music on a record, tape, or CD and physically insert it into a machine to get it to play.
