Leaving tips in a restaurant isn’t mandatory, although, in many places, the employees depend on these tips as a significant part of their income. Nevertheless, if you feel like the service was bad, you don’t have to leave a tip. However, writing on the check, in lieu of a tip, “try a different job” is just being a jerk.

It’s just so rude and uncalled for, we can’t imagine why anyone would do that. You didn’t enjoy your meal? Didn’t enjoy the service? That’s fine – don’t leave a tip and don’t come back to this establishment. But leaving a snarky comment for the waiters who are just trying to do their job and make ends meet is simply mean.
