8. Jackson’s Pet Parrot
It’s common for presidents to have “presidential pets” that reside in the White House. Nowadays, most presidents just go the safe route and get a cute dog. Not Andrew Jackson! He had a pet parrot named Poll that had originally belonged to his wife, Rachel. When Rachel passed away, Jackson continued to care for the parrot.

Poll caused some controversy at Jackson’s funeral in 1845. The parrot had to be removed from the funeral because it wouldn’t stop cursing during the ceremony! We’re not sure where this foul-mouthed parrot picked up so many dirty words, but we can make our assumptions. Andrew Jackson was known to be quite temperamental and have the mouth of a sailor.
