42. Powerful Avocados
Beyond their value as a source of nourishment, avocados held deep cultural significance for the Aztecs as symbols of love and fertility. According to Aztec beliefs, consuming avocados could provide strength to the individual who ate them. In fact, the Aztec word for avocado, ‘ahuácatl,’ was the same as the word for testicle.

This may have been due to the fruit’s shape or the fact that it grew in pairs. Aztecs considered avocados to be an aphrodisiac that could enhance a man’s virility and increase a woman’s chances of getting pregnant. This association underscores the importance of food and its symbolism in shaping cultural beliefs and practices.
