38. Nice Dentures
If you like dark fun facts, this one’s for you. Back in the 19th century, scientists had not yet invented acrylic, which is what most dentures are made of today. Therefore, dentures used to be made of actual human teeth. Rumor has it that a lot of dentures in Europe were made with the teeth of soldiers who died in the Battle of Waterloo. Graverobbers and scavengers would pull teeth from dead bodies, and dentists would then purchase these teeth to meet the increased demand for dentures.

The Battle of Waterloo has another grotesque point of interest. It was a pivotal battle that marked the end of the Napoleonic Wars. About 50,000 soldiers died during the course of the battle. However, mass graves for these fallen soldiers have never been located. Some researchers have suspicions that the bodies were used for fertilizer or sugar. *Shudders*
