34. The Ultimate Party
In June of 1520, King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France met up in the northern tip of France. Supposedly, the meeting was to proclaim the newfound friendship between the two monarchs. In reality, it was to show off. The result was a two-and-a-half week-long party for the ages.

During the course of the festivities, the two monarchs kept trying to outdo each other to show off their power and wealth. The event, dubbed the “Field of Cloth of Gold,” hosted over 12,000 royals, nobles, and servants. There were elaborate temporary palaces, 50-course feasts, and fountains flowing with wine. This event would have been quite a thing to behold!
