18. A Gruesome Birth
There is evidence that a 7th-century woman in modern-day Bologna gave birth after she had passed away. In 2010, archeologists discovered the ancient grave of a pregnant woman in the medieval Italian town of Imola. The remains were odd, though, because researchers noticed a smaller set of human remains between the woman’s legs.

This gruesome discovery indicates that the woman was pregnant when she died. The post-mortem gas built up in her body and pushed out the deceased fetus after her burial. This is a very dark, morbid occurrence, but it’s not unheard of. There have been other, very rare archeological discoveries of this phenomenon.
