17. Some Fresh Air
We know what you’re thinking, but this photograph and this fact are NOT fake! This contraption is exactly what you think it is: a baby cage. Let us explain. In the 1930s, baby cages gained popularity in London. The intention behind these cages was actually much more positive than it looks.

Many families in the city lived in apartments and didn’t have easy access to a garden or public park. These baby cages were intended to give children fresh air and exposure to the great outdoors! Many community organizations even donated baby cages to middle class families. Baby cages were banned once WWII began for safety reasons (the irony), but they surprisingly resurfaced a bit in the 1950s.
