16. An Old Romantic

Victor Hugo is one of the western world’s most famous authors. While he is most famous for his historical fiction Les Misérables, he was also famous in his day for loving a good time. Victor Hugo’s “appetite” was infamous. He constantly had mistresses and was a frequent flyer at many of Paris’ brothels. 

Pretty much every Parisian lady of the night knew and loved Victor Hugo because he was known to be a very generous, respectful client. That’s why, upon his death in 1885, every brothel in Paris shut down the day of his funeral. That way, all of his former ldy friends had the opportunity to attend his funeral if they wanted.
