#14: Nominated For 10 Academy Awards
Despite being one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors, Newman had a frustrating journey with the Academy Awards. He received 10 nominations throughout his career, often giving performances that critics deemed “Oscar-worthy,” yet the gold statue remained elusive.

By the time he won Best Actor for The Color of Money in 1986, he had already received an Honorary Oscar the year before—almost as if the Academy had given up on awarding him competitively. Newman himself had a dry sense of humor about it, quipping, “It’s like chasing a beautiful woman for 80 years, and then she finally says, ‘Here, take it.’”
