#37: Maya Bay
After its stunning appearance in Leonardo DiCaprio’s film The Beach, Thailand’s Maya Bay experienced a surge in popularity, attracting swarms of tourists. This overwhelming influx led to severe environmental distress, damaging coral reefs and marine life.

To address this, Thailand’s government instituted a temporary closure of Maya Bay, which remains in effect to allow the ecosystem to recover. This period of rest and rehabilitation aims to restore the bay’s natural beauty and ecological balance.
