If you have ever rented an apartment before then you know what it can be like when dealing with new landlords. They put such ridiculous clauses into contracts, simply because they can. No doubt that having a property that you need to upkeep can be stressful, but new tenants have every right to feeling welcomed and trusted in their new homes.

Policing what your tenants can and can’t cook in their own home seems to us like an intense breach of landlord-tenant relations. What could possibly happen when cooking with oils and spices – besides coming up with great dishes? Surely a regular clause could be worked into the contract that would stipulate that any damage caused by spices and oils needs to be fixed, rather than banning them entirely?
