New Zealand is a beautiful country all the way in the corner of the world, famed for its dramatic landscape and ideal for a vacation spot. It is also, famously, the place The Lord of the Rings movies were shot and therefore is the definitive look of Middle-Earth to some people.

But the real middle ages, unlike in fantasy settings, were a dark and dreary time in many ways, with Black Plague running rampant through the streets. During this age is when the Maori were first arriving and settling in New Zealand.
