Ahhh, Shrek. What a strange movie of pop culture references that flipped fairy tales on their heads in its uniquely cheeky way. Shrek was released in 2001 by DreamWorks and quickly became a favorite in households both with kids and adults.

And for good reason, its charm is hard to miss. It also came out during the time Civil Right Activist Rosa Parks was still alive. She would have been an old woman about then and died two years later in 2003. She may have seen the movie; who knows?
