We’ve all heard the saying, “The best thing since sliced bread,” but have any of us ever looked to see when that invention actually came about? Before this invention, when anyone wanted slices of bread for something like a sandwich, they’d have to take out a knife themselves and cut a few pieces.

This all changed in 1928 when Otto Frederick Rohwedder invented the bread slicer and began to sell loaves of bread that came pre-cut. Betty White, on the other hand, was born in 1922, six years before the invention was released to the public. It only explains even more why she’s such a legend.
