#29: Keeping the Train Running
We’re all pretty accustomed to stories where businesses have to make decisions based on their own bottom line, not necessarily on what’s best for people and their customers. So it’s really heartwarming to hear of situations where businesses do the right thing, even if it’s not a financially sound decision.

When it became clear that a station in a remote area was not getting much use, Japan Railway could have ceased service out there—that’s what most companies would do. Instead, they chose to help a student who otherwise might not have been able to finish her education. It’s a truly touching (and rare) story of a corporation doing the right thing.
