#54: Father of the Year
A dad chimed in with his opinion of fatherhood and how low he considers our society’s standards. He says that he constantly gets praised by friends and strangers for being “such a great father” when he’s doing basic tasks like feeding his children or playing with them outside. This might sound like a humble brag, but we get what he’s saying.

Women are constantly doing the same tasks as mothers and no one goes out of their way to comment on how they’re amazing mothers. It’s taken for granted that women are “supposed” to act like this, but it’s praised as rare and amazing when a man does it. We need to start expecting caretaking as the norm in fatherhood, not the exception.
