#50: Disappointing Double Standard
Another person posted that they think there’s a double standard for men versus women when it comes to the custody of children. They said that they think fathers often don’t get custody of their kids in court because the courts almost always side with the mothers. While this was definitely true for older generations, things are changing and the double standard is slowly but surely disappearing.

According to Right Lawyers, the court will always base their custody decision on what’s best for the children involved. That means that sometimes the father does get custody. It doesn’t automatically default to the mother. There are a lot of factors that go into deciding child custody during a divorce, and custody probably still does default to the mother sometimes. But changing gender roles in parenthood have helped minimize this double standard in recent decades, which is a good thing.
