#29: Ed O’Neill’s Film Career Suffered

Believe it or not, landing the role of Al Bundy actually cost Ed O’Neill another gig. He had been cast in the 1991 military drama Flight of the Intruder, but after Married… with Children made him a household name, things took an unexpected turn.

Test audiences couldn’t stop laughing whenever O’Neill appeared on screen, unable to separate him from his wisecracking, shoe-selling alter ego. The unintended comedy was too much for the filmmakers, and they ultimately decided to cut his role.
