As mentioned earlier, Ed O’Neill wasn’t the producers’ first pick for Al Bundy—but that changed the moment he walked into the audition. Before he even spoke a single word, he won them over. O’Neill was simply instructed to walk through the Bundy home’s front door.

Instead of just stepping in, he let out a deep sigh and slumped his shoulders in exhaustion, perfectly capturing Al’s beaten-down, working-class spirit. That single gesture sealed the deal. The producers knew instantly that they had found their Al Bundy, and TV history was made.
