Before her breakthrough in acting, Lucille found work as a model in New York City. She posed for fashion ads and even worked for designer Hattie Carnegie, gaining experience in front of the camera. Her striking looks and photogenic presence caught the attention of advertisers, and she soon became the face of Chesterfield cigarettes.

This stint in modeling paid her bills and boosted her confidence, paving the way for her to pursue film roles. However, money was tight for the aspiring actress then, so much so that she resorted to eating “tomato soup,” which was simply ketchup with water.
