50. Schrafft’s
Schrafft’s started off as a candy business in Boston. When Frank G. Shattuck purchased the company, he decided to grow it into a unique restaurant, too. The chain had most of its locations in New York City and the surrounding area.

The restaurant thrived in the 1920s and 30s with a menu offering salads, vegetable side dishes, and more dessert options than actual entrees. It was the place to go for a light lunch and to satisfy your sweet tooth craving. However, by the 1980s, the restaurant struggled to profit and eventually closed its remaining locations.
