27. Tops Drive Inn
Top’s Drive Inn chain was a chain of eighteen drive-in burger restaurants that were located in Washington D.C. Tops merged with Gino’s Hamburgers in 1967, and most of the Tops locations were renamed with Gino’s branding. Tops was very popular despite its minimal locations. After the merger, the Tops/Gino’s chains had 359 locations.

The company got some bad press in the 1970s when it attempted to purchase the Orchestra Hall in Detroit, Michigan. It planned to demolish it and build a restaurant. The grass-roots campaign to save the Orchestra Hall caused Tops to experience some negative media. It went under in 1982.
