21. Chuck E. Cheese
Nolan Bushnell, the inventor of Atari, came up with the concept for Chuck E. Cheese Pizza, a combination arcade, play place, and pizza restaurant. The chain had arcade games, animatronic displays, and amusement rides, and kids couldn’t get enough of the place ever since its founding in 1977.

In 2020, fans of the restaurant were saddened to learn that Chuck E. Cheese was likely going to shut down a lot of its branches. Its parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 25, 2020. The company is seeking $200 million in loans to dig itself out of its financial hole, though it says it has between $1 and $2 billion in debt.
