Some alleged suspects aren’t the brightest people. If you’re in court for being verbally and physically abusive to an officer, your only viable course of action is to remain as polite as possible in the hopes that you can convince the jury the officer had it all wrong. This defendant missed that memo by a mile.

He was verbally abusive in court in front of the jury and judge. It’s a miracle he wasn’t held in contempt of court after making that statement. As for the other story here, I’d have panicked, too, if I was a lawyer and my client claimed that to be the case. There are places for jokes, and a courtroom isn’t one of them!
