#8: Finding His Fit at Indiana State

After leaving Indiana University, Larry enrolled at Indiana State University in Terre Haute in 1975. The smaller school suited his personality and allowed him to flourish. Bird finally found the right environment to thrive as a student and a player.

Under Coach Bill Hodges, he quickly became the team star, electrifying fans with his passing, scoring, and basketball IQ. He elevated a previously unknown program to national attention. The move to Indiana State wasn’t glamorous, but it was perfect for Bird.
