#29: Life Away from the Spotlight

Despite his fame, Bird never strayed far from his Indiana roots. He and Dinah built a life in Naples, Florida, and West Baden Springs, where Larry enjoys a quieter pace. He has always shunned the celebrity lifestyle, preferring fishing, golf, and small-town life.

He rarely gives interviews and is known to keep close relationships with only a small circle of trusted friends and family. While he wasn’t a spotlight dad in the traditional sense, those close to him say he softened with age and placed real value on fatherhood later in life.
