#64: The Real Name of a Hen’s Egg
Did you know that the name of a hen’s egg has a specific name, other than just egg? A hen’s egg is called a cackleberry. Yep. So, basically, all eggs can be called a cackleberry. There’s no difference between chickens and hens. Hens are just the name for adult female chickens that can lay eggs. So, all eggs we eat can be called cackleberries.

Of course, I don’t think anyone actually calls eggs cackleberries, though what a word it is. The word originated in the English language as American slang and seems to have been used more often back in the early to mid-1900s. Now, of course, I don’t know if anyone uses the word cackleberry anymore. But again, what a word!
