#14: Certs
Certs, a product etched into the heart of American snack culture, oscillates between being labeled a mint and a candy. Birthed by Mondelez International in 1956, it was the pioneer mint on the national market, attaining a legendary status. Its name was once a generic term for mints, similar to how Kleenex represents tissues. Sadly, the 2010s marked their discontinuation, dimming the once vibrant legacy of Certs.

Certs had been a beloved staple for many years, enduring in popularity until 2018 a crisis unfolded. The presence of partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil, a now-banned substance, in its ingredients led to its downfall. This marked a significant loss felt deeply within convenience stores throughout the United States, turning Certs from a ubiquitous treat into a cherished memory.
