#10: Evolution of Telephones

Rewind to the 1970s through your favorite old movies, and you’ll spot the iconic wall phone, an emblem of the communication technology of the time. Mounted on walls, these telephones, with their long cords connecting handset to base, stand in stark contrast to today’s sleek smartphones, epitomizing the giant leap in convenience and design in personal communication devices over the years.

Motorola, a leading name in phone technology of its era, broke new ground in the early 1970s with the launch of the first portable phone. This innovation paved the way for the DynaTAC 8000X, certified by the FCC in the 1980s as the inaugural cell phone. Despite its clunky size, it marked a significant shift in phone technology, though many still held a fondness for their trusty wall phones.
