No movie list would be complete without a Clint Eastwood classic like Escape from Alcatraz. The movie was mostly shot at the actual prison, with just a few scenes in the studio. If it looks like not much has changed, you’re right. The island is now part of the National Park Service, keeping it well maintained and original.

It’s open to the public for tours, and many movies have been shot there, including Catch Me If You Can, The Book of Eli, and Electric Dreams. They don’t stop tours during filming, either. During Escape From Alcatraz, tourists were arriving every half hour, and they had to restructure filming schedules to shoot at night to avoid them.
