#35: “You maniacs! You blew it up!”
While many hail the remake well done, the first Planet of the Apes from 1968 was masterful. The crew worked for months to make set after set as digital cinematography hadn’t yet been invented. A great example of this is Ape City, shown below. That’s Malibu Creek State Park, located in Calabasas, California.

You can see Century Lake, where the “city” was built in the first photo, but after 54 years, there isn’t a trace of any of it left behind. If you want to see it in person, be prepared for a hike. It’s about 1.4 miles off the main trail called High Road. If that sounds familiar, you’ve probably seen the restroom at the entrance at the beginning of Halloween H20.
