How it Ended

The end of Monroe and Miller’s relationship came in 1961, as the strain of their differences and Monroe’s deteriorating mental health became insurmountable. The filming of “The Misfits” was particularly taxing, exposing the cracks in their marriage.

Monroe felt increasingly isolated and misunderstood, while Miller grew frustrated with her instability and reliance on medication. They divorced in January 1961, but the separation left a lasting impact on both. Monroe continued to struggle with her demons until she died in 1962, just 19 months after their divorce.
