German Ancestry

Wow, that’s a lot of sausages and beer! As someone who loves German culture, I’m unsurprised that so many Americans claim German ancestry. From Oktoberfest celebrations to Christmas markets, German traditions have been widely embraced in the United States. It’s fascinating to think that such a large portion of the population shares a common heritage.

I wonder how many of those 43 million Americans speak German or have visited Germany – I bet it’s not a lot. Perhaps one day, I’ll have the chance to raise a glass with some of them at a local beer hall and celebrate the holidays with a giant mug of beer. Prost!
