#42: The Heart Keeps on Beating
Our heart has one (very important) job, and that is to keep on beating. So, it may not come as a surprise that if a heart is removed from a human body, it will continue to beat even after its removed. This is the reason why heart transplants are possible. Because our hearts do not stop immediately, we are able to perform surgeries and transfer them to another person.

The heart continues to beat because it is one function that does not need the human brain in order to be completed. The heart has its own separate electrical system that causes to continue beating. However, as incredible as that sounds, this does not last for too long, which is why it’s important to act quickly in the event of a heart transplant.
