#9: Wendy’s
In 1969, Dave Thomas turned his dream into reality, opening the first Wendy’s in Columbus, Ohio, and naming it after his daughter, Melinda—affectionately called “Wendy.” Inspired by Kewpee Hamburgers, he introduced square beef patties, a bold statement of quality and freshness.

Wendy’s quickly stood out in the fast-food world, and by 1972, the brand was making waves—airing its first TV commercial in Ohio and opening its first franchise. What began as one family-inspired restaurant soon became a household name, proving that fresh ingredients, a signature shape, and a father’s love can build an enduring legacy.
