Earlier in the film, Kevin spills milk in the kitchen and his dad, played by actor John Heard, cleans up the mess and along with it throws Kevin’s plane ticket in the trash by accident. We actually even get a shot of his plane ticket in the trash… If his parents had his ticket, then they definitely would have realized sooner.
