Your Red is My Blue

Even if you compare the structure of a healthy person’s eyes with another, there’s no guarantee that they perceive color the same. For instance, we can all see red, but is my red the same as your red? How can our eyes be real if magenta isn’t real? Questions like this really make you think.

What’s even stranger is that language can affect how you perceive colors. For instance, the Himba people of Northern Namibia lump pink, red, and orange into “color family.” If you ask an English-speaking member of the Himba tribe what color an orange is and what color Peppa Pig is, they’ll most likely answer using the same word (orange or red).
